Visa Requirements

Citizens of many countries can enter South Africa visa-free for stays up to 90 days, including visitors from the UK, US, Canada, Australia, and most EU countries. However, requirements change, so always check with the nearest South African embassy or consulate before travelling.

Important: Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days beyond your departure date and have at least 2 blank pages for entry stamps.

Best Time to Visit

Cape Town enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The best time to visit depends on what you want to do:

  • Summer (Nov-Feb): Avg 25-30°C. Best for beaches, Cape Point, outdoor activities. Peak season.
  • Autumn (Mar-May): Avg 18-25°C. Best for wine tasting, fewer crowds, great weather. Recommended.
  • Winter (Jun-Aug): Avg 12-18°C. Best for whale watching (Jun-Nov), green landscapes.

Currency & Money

South Africa uses the South African Rand (ZAR). Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are widely accepted. ATMs are readily available throughout Cape Town. It's a good idea to carry some cash for markets and tips.

  • Stay in well-lit, populated areas at night
  • Don't leave belongings visible in parked cars
  • Keep copies of your passport and important documents separate from originals
  • Use the hotel safe for valuables
